May 17, 2018

Kaufman & Canoles, P.C., is pleased to partner with PBMares, LLP to present the first of a four-part Cybersecurity series of complimentary breakfast seminar programs focused on data privacy and security. In the first part of this series,  Harvey L. Johnson, Partner of PBMares' Cyber & Control Risk Services Group, Antonina K. McAvoy, Manager of PBMares’ Cyber & Control Risk Services Group, and Nicole J. Harrell, Chair of Kaufman & Canoles' Data Privacy and Security Practice Group, will provide an overview of cyber risk management, data mapping and threat analysis. For a summary of all four seminar presentation topics, please refer below:

Cyber Series Seminar #1 (Thursday, May 17, 2018):
Data Mapping and Threat Analysis – Cyber-attacks and resulting data breaches are an increasing risk, leading to exposure of sensitive data. This presentation will dive into assessing technology environments to perform a data mapping exercise to help companies identify key data assets, what data resides where, and what needs to be protected based on the threats to those assets. The seminar will further highlight using the data mapping to perform a formal risk assessment and threat analysis. With the increased number of employees working from home and by mobile, we’ll discuss the importance of evaluating all threats and ensuring the right policies and security awareness programs are in place to reduce the risk of a breach.

Cyber Series Seminar #2 (Thursday, June 14, 2018):
Risk Management Program (Part 1) – How to apply change management, as well as logical and physical access controls in a layered overlapping way to reduce risks to an acceptable level. This presentation will dive into secure configurations, network security, removable media controls, managing user privileges, monitoring, intrusion detection systems, malware protection, and network security.

Cyber Series Seminar #3 (Thursday, August 23, 2018):
Risk Management Program (Part 2) – Establishing an incident response and disaster recovery capability. This presentation will dive into Response Planning to provide an overview of producing and testing incident management plans, to include: Incident Response, Business Continuity and Disaster Recovery. This section will also highlight the importance of understanding the potential liabilities that come with a breach and what legal guidance a company can benefit from as they prepare for or respond to a breach.

Cyber Series Seminar #4 (Thursday, September 27, 2018):
Vendor Management and Cyber Insurance – This presentation will dive into vendor selection, how to establish a vendor risk management program, and basic security assessments to perform on all key vendors. Additionally, the presentation will highlight the increased demand for cyber insurance. The onslaught of cyber-attacks have companies and vendors pointing the finger at each other regarding responsibility, and insurance carriers are looking for ways to deny claims. This presentation will assist you in understanding key elements of a strong vendor management program, clarify what action steps you need to take to have sufficient cyber insurance coverage and reduce the risk of being denied in the event of a cyber-breach claim.
